Irish Knitting Tour, textiles

The making of Day 2, Dyeing to Knit Ireland Tour October 2024; Lisa Sisk, Crafts of Ireland, and Cabra Castle

It’s Day 2 of our Dyeing to Knit Ireland Tour and we’ve just enjoyed our first Irish Breakfast of the trip. You know what my favorite part of an Irish breakfast is? The marmalade. And a bit of tomato with the egg. And at least 2 cups of sweet milk tea with the toast. I wonder what yours will be? Pudding or no pudding?

After our breakfast, we’ll be joined at our hotel by Lisa Sisk of This is Knit to teach us the moebius knitting technique followed by a workshop on the Glenties Cowl pattern which was designed by Lisa. We’ll get to work with soft Donegal yarn from the mills of Studio Donegal in Kilcar for this class.

This afternoon, we’ll travel north towards County Cavan where we’ll spend the remainder of the day with Sandra Coote at her Crafts of Ireland studio. On arrival, we’ll enjoy a scrumptious Afternoon Tea with home baked treats as we enjoy talks and demonstrations on different topics from flax growing to crochet and wool dyeing.

We’ll then continue on to Cabra Castle where we’ll enjoy the Irish castle experience and exquisite dining before nestling into our cozy and luxury rooms.

In addition to two dynamic workshops with Lisa, I was thrilled to add some fiber variation in the form of flax growing, crochet and sharing the experience of an Irish afternoon tea, was at the top of my list of priorities! I cannot wait to share this day with you!
