Irish Knitting Tour, textiles

The Making of Day 6, Dyeing to Knit Ireland Tour October 2024; Knitting w/ Carol Feller & Irish Set Dancing on Inishmore

I’ve been knitting since I was 13 (35 years!) and I know there is always more to learn. I’m not sure if there is anything more grounding and life giving than making a new friend over a few sticks and string. It can feel like the easiest thing in the world. As a teacher of craft myself, I always look forward to sitting back and taking in what someone else had to offer. And I am so excited to see what Carol has in store for us.

Rachel’s first night ever trying Irish set dancing. 24 years ago!

Our day starts with a knitting workshop hosted with well-known Irish knitter and author of the book ‘Contemporary Irish Knits’, Carol Feller. Carol trained initially as a textile artist and then as a structural engineer. While both of these backgrounds are very different the influences can be seen in her design work which is well- shaped, flattering to wear and enjoyable to knit.

After Carol’s workshop, we’ll have some free time for lunch (not included). Then later in the afternoon, it’s onwards to the village of Rossaveal to board the ferry to Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands. On arrival, we’ll meet with our local guide Una MacDonagh who will introduce us to island life before dinner along with a traditional Irish dancing lesson!

We’ll enjoy two cozy nights at the Aran Island Hotel
