Dye Hunting; finding the red mushrooms

I knew it was the right time of year. I knew we were getting enough rain. More than enough really. I knew to be patient. I knew to look near and under pine trees. And then I found them.

Cortinarius semisanguineus will yield deep earthy reds when cooked in hot water with wool and silk that has first been treated with alum.

I processed all that I found and popped them into my freezer for later. I couldn’t be more excited!!
